The Marble Sculpture ‘FRANCE 1914’ created by Simon Burns-Cox was designed to commemorate the ending of The First World War and was made in aid of the charity Poppyscotland. The Sculpture is made from Black and Gold Portoro Marble and has been carved and highly polished by hand and represents the last remaining tree on the battlefront and a symbol of hope.
‘FRANCE 1914′ has been exhibited in The Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh in 2015 and is also being exhibited at the following Museums and Galleries in Glasgow:
The Peoples’ Palace Museum, Glasgow from March 2016-2017
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow from March 2017-2018
The Riverside Museum, Glasgow from March 2018- 2019
At the end of The Exhibition in 2019, The Marble Sculpture ‘FRANCE 1914’ will be auctioned in aid of the charity Poppyscotland.
Poppyscotland provides life changing support to the Armed Forces. The charity offers practical advice, assistance and funding to those who have served or are still serving their country at a time of crisis. Poppyscotland runs the Scottish Poppy Appeal which raises over £2 million each year. This combined with other year round fundraising enables the charity to provide support and funding to Ex Servicemen and women.
The charity was established in 1921 as The Earl Haig Fund Scotland. In 2011, Poppyscotland merged with The Royal British Legion which operates throughout the U.K.
Poppyscotland needs to raise more than £10,000 per day to continue the help it is providing to Ex servicemen and women. Simon Burns-Cox is happy to donate a piece of his work to help the charity raise the funds it requires.
