The course will include the following:
At the beginning of the session, we will have a discussion and review about the various tools you need to carve marble and how to use them correctly. We will use the traditional techniques used by Italian artisans and craftsmen using hand tools such as the hammer and chisel. However, we will also discuss the use of machine anad electrical tools.
We will also look at how to select your marble and discuss the skills needed to work three dimentionally. We will then put this into practice with a piece of marble roughing out the form, and then developing and refining it looking at textures and polishing techniques as you proceed.
You will work at your own pace with individual guidance from Simon. Safety glasses will be provided and its important to wear strong shoes and old clothes as it will be dusty.
