Stone Carving Course Gift Vouchers

Why not give a stone carving course gift voucher for Christmas ? Gift Vouchers are available for courses in Stone Carving, Letter Carving and Relief Carving with Simon Burns-Cox. Courses take place at The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop in Edinburgh, Scotland. Courses are for individuals or friends but not more than two or three people due to health restrictions. Tuition will take place outside but under cover so you need to wrap up warm.

Course prices are £135 per person for one day from 9.30am to 4.30pm which includes stone and the use of tools.  Dates are agreed with the workshop but there is no tuition on Sunday or Monday. Individual tuition is available for Sculpture, Stone Letter Carving and Stone Relief Carving at flexible times throughout the year.

You will learn to think three dimensionally and how to manipulate the stone from the basic idea to the finished work. If you are letter carving, you will learn the importance of drawing your design onto the stone before carving thinking about style, proportion, spacing and form before the process of carving begins.

 

Two Day Stone Letter Carving and Relief Course for Small Group Tuition

There is also a Two Day Stone Letter Carving or Relief Course. The course price is £225 per person for up to three people with the use of stone and tools included and the course is suitable for beginners and more advanced students.

Before the course begins, you will be asked to look at different types of lettering and design styles and to think about what you would like to produce and carve during the course. At the beginning of the session, there will be a review about the tools and how to use them correctly. The student will be shown the about the importance of the V cut and different ways to cut stone. There will also be a discussion about style, proportion, spacing and form and the importance of drawing before preparation. We will look at how to transfer your design from your sketches on paper to the stone. Students will then begin to draw their design in preparation for carving. Students will work on their project with personalised tuition and guidance from Simon throughout the day. Please wear suitable clothing and safety glasses will be provided.
